How Much Should You Pay an Influencer?
Pricing in the creator economy can be incredibly confusing. Because there is no standard MRP for a social media post, brands often overpay, while creators often undercharge. Our influencer cost calculator uses industry-standard formulas, adjusting for the specific platform, the format of the content, the currency market (INR vs USD), and most importantly, whether you are paying for followers or actual reach.
Followers vs Views (Reach): Which is Better?
In the modern algorithm era, paying based on average views is much safer than paying based on followers. An Instagram Reel or YouTube Short is pushed to the explore page based on content quality, not just follower count. A creator with 10,000 followers could easily average 500,000 views per video. If you pay them based on followers, you are severely underpaying them. If a creator with 2 Million followers only averages 20,000 views, paying them based on their follower size will result in a huge loss for your brand.
Always ask the creator for a screenshot of their insights showing the average reach of their last 10 videos, and use the "By Views" tab in our calculator to get an accurate Cost Per View (CPV) estimate.
Factors That Affect Influencer Pricing
While our calculator provides a highly accurate baseline estimate, you should be prepared to adjust your final offer based on the following variables:
- Usage Rights: If you plan to run the influencer video as a Facebook or Instagram Ad (Whitelisting), creators typically charge an extra 20% to 50% for usage rights.
- Exclusivity: Asking a creator not to work with your competitors for 3 to 6 months will significantly increase the cost of the deal.
- Niche Dependency: A finance or tech influencer will charge 2x to 3x more than a comedy or lip-sync creator, simply because their audience has higher purchasing power.
